Integrating well-being, livelihoods and peacebuilding and transitional justice

Sustainability AB works with organizations and communities engaged in peacebuilding and preventing the recurrence of the past or the emergence of new forms of violence. This is through support to capacity building, reconciliation and dialogue, political and social economic transformation mechanisms. We recognize that political transitions, especially in fragile and conflict-affected countries, do not occur along a smooth or simple trajectory; the peacebuilding path is fraught with tensions, creating turbulence that impacts the social fabric in profound and, sometimes, unexpected ways.

We support the integration of psychosocial support as a constituent part of peacebuilding processes that include the following:

  • Social-economic development
  • Gender equity
  • Reconciliation and social justice
  • Education and growth of human capital; rebuilding of social fabric and improving the human rights environment.
  • Memory and identity in post-conflict period: transmission of memory is crucial in the development of new identities of citizenship that are key to reconciliation processes.

We promote learning and evidence-base for an intersectional approach to addressing structural and relational causes and consequences of conflicts, inequality, poverty, gender violence. Therefore, we advocate for approaches that promote the participation of the affected populations or communities. We engage with a variety of national and international initiatives and programs that link psychosocial support for individuals and groups with wider processes of transformation for social justice that can change the structures of oppression, marginalization and exclusion. In partnership with the Great Lakes Initiative and Junubin Together, Nayece Sustainability AB is currently involved with the following projects in South Sudan: (a) rights-based approach to eliminate child marriage and other harmful cultural practices (b) women and girls empowerment through agriculture, education and improved livelihoods initiatives and (c ) stability and peacebuilding: engaging women and youth.
